A frequency counter is an extremely usefu I tool for tuning the voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) of a synthesiser both quickly and accu-rately. To this end the author has designed a frequency multi pi ier which can be used in conjunction with the minicounter published in Elektor 38 (June 1978) to measure frequencies between 30 Hz and 10 kHz with much shorter gate/ count times than would otherwise be the case. With a gate time of 1 s the maximum readout is 999.9 Hz, whilst with a gate time of 0.1 s the maxi-mum frequency is 9999 Hz.
