Until quite recently, computer chess was regarded by even mediocre chess players as little more than a joke - `Computers are such stupid things`! However, recent computer chess tournaments have demonstrated that the best programs are becoming quite good. Even so, a lingering doubt remains: one computer may be able to convincingly wipe up another, but how will it fare when confronted with a human player? Recently, Mr. Levy - an international chess master - was challenged by the reigning world champion computer.
